Woman and child Development

Women Development

Women in India form half of population in the country and 75% of them reside in rural areas. We, at CENPAP, are part of global women's movement that is rooted in a commitment to justice and an appreciation of the value of women's experience.

Extends technical support to the Government, International donor agencies and NGOs to achieve a deeper insight into the lives of poor women and the contribution of women concerns in inspiring initiatives for gender sensitisation, creating gender equality and empowerment of women. We also study the supplementary and complementary roles that these initiatives play in other developmental programmes in health, education, rural development, etc.

Research studies contribute value inputs in assessing the training needs of rural women to take up income generating activities, including vocational training, capacity building and entrepreneurship development; monitoring and evaluation of the micro-financing and other facilities extended to the women in the process and exploring new employment bases.

Delivers rich research inputs to the various Family Welfare Programmes and ICDS, with a view to bring about effective coordination among them in promoting health and nutrition among women and children, training adolescents and women on reproductive health, family counselling and ensure safe motherhood. Its research works towards developing a decentralised approach that helps individuals meet their broader health and family planning goals.

Provides research and technical support to the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Programmes, by conducting studies on the performance of Family Welfare Program (FWP) in reducing maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, with special emphasis on institutional strengthening, progressively expanding their scope and quality and fostering a multisectoral approach.

Conducts evaluation studies on strategies to curb gender-based violence, sexual harassment at work places and legal enactment's addressing these and information, education and communication necessary to bring about social transformation in the civil society. Also, to safeguard rights and interests of women with due consideration for the role of media, private sector and other profit and non-profit organisations working for women.

Conducts careful qualitative research needed for designing messages to convey knowledge and practices related to contraception, safe sex, safe motherhood practices, nutrition, HIV/AIDS prevention and gender relationships.

Action Research to introduce, test, or modify program supporting Women development and activities and measure their impact and cost and developing innovative models in integrating the various sectoral allocations to women. These studies contribute to the development of a multi-pronged approach to social, political and economic empowerment of women.

                                                                        

Child Development

Undertakes active research studies in child needs, their health and nutrition status, mortality rates, malnutrition, early learning and stimulation, enabling environment for their overall psychosocial development with due consideration for converging basic services, improving enrollment and retention and according children their rights. We have also conducted studies on the role of institutional capacity building, social mobilization and media participation in the regard.

Evaluation studies on supplementary nutrition, mid day meal programme, immunization programs, role of Anganwadi centres, and rehabilitation of destitute children and other child and mother welfare programmes.

Conducts regular monitoring studies to realize the communicable diseases and problems of maternal and child health, status of malnutrition, availability of appropriate and timely health care etc in order to appreciate the goal of eradication of tetanus, measles and diarrhea related deaths, ensure safe prenatal and neonatal care etc. These efforts contribute to improve the health-nutrition coordination.

Our adolescent girls related studies helped in assessing health, education, recreation, self development and skill formation needs of adolescent girls in order to enhance their potential as social animators and improving their capabilities in addressing nutrition and health issues.

Offers technical support in empowering mothers to breast-feeding and childcare practices through nutrition education and communication and appropriate behavioral changes.

Covers the various aspects necessary for health policy planning and development, such as increasing access and coverage of existing programs by the poor, strengthening service delivery, fostering public-private partnership in health service delivery etc.

Extends its research assistance in children growth monitoring, identifying the child development indicators, assessing the existing early child development programmes with due consideration for developing interventions in preparing children for school, improving their performance, revising their curricula and creating synergy among the various existing ECDS.

Conducts assessment studies on training needs of caregivers and anganwadi workers, learning and teaching techniques in order to make the anganwadi an attractive and "joyful" center, promote child-centrad teaching, child-to-child activities and the active participation of parents and the community.

Conducts research studies on public awareness in respect to children's issues, laws and rights in order to develop appropriate IEC materials and the dissemination of good nutrition practices and the services.

Conducts studies on innovative individual programs and research dedicated to helping children and adolescents reach their full potential and assist policy makers, program managers, and practitioners in their efforts to promote the healthy growth and integral development of young children.
