Urban Management signifies a major approach to strengthen the contribution that cities and towns make towards economic growth, social development, and the alleviation of poverty to the Nation as whole, through the combined efforts of Government and non-Governmental agencies.

Research studies contribute to a range of issues confronting Indian cities and explore new approaches to addressing these issues to enhance awareness for improving the creditworthiness of cities and the delivery of urban services, particularly to the poor.

Studies aspects of city consultation process and participatory governance which center n mobilising revenues and resources for effective delivery of urban services, harnessing Public-Private Partnerships and improving the policy environment and capacity of urban local authorities in responding to the changing situational demands.

Offers technical assistance to understand the dynamics of urban poverty, explores the effects of public policy on them to better inform decision-makers in designing the urban poverty alleviation and their rehabilitation programs including access to land, housing and micro-financing schemes.

Research combines its urban-based planning and community outreach processes to determine the best outcomes for community projects. Feasibility analysis includes an evaluation of market implications, community goals and vision, management options and financial sustainability. It helps to create, grow and refocus public/ private organisations that advance towards urban revitalisation, community development and other civic agendas.

Research assists in Utility mapping of the urban infrastructure and developing urban safety management frameworks to include mobility (flows, congestion, modes of transport etc), the environment, road hierarchy/design, and other urban initiatives such as parking etc. Its studies support the participatory and partnership mode of urban management.

Looks at all of the commercial areas within an urban area and evaluates trends, demographics, community attitudes, stockholder perspectives and competitive destinations to create new investment destinations.

Studies examine innovative approaches of urban environment management, focusing on Solid Waste, Water, Sanitation and Air Quality Management by synergistic capacity building among the various stockholders in planning, financing and implementation of effective environmental quality management systems and regulatory framework. Its studies also cover rapid urban environmental assessment and energy-environment linkages in the Urban Sector.

Study probe to find ways to give further recognition to the role, which cities and towns play at the local level in contributing to the global development effort such as city-to-city horizontal co-operation. The same through exchange of social capital, city consultations and knowledge management through the network of regional institutions and municipal associations.
