Resettlement and Rehabilitation

Provides active research inputs to the various Governmental institutions for the formulation of policies and programmes for relief and rehabilitation of people of Indian origin displaced from other countries, refugees, below poverty line, war, project and disaster -affected. Also, freedom fighters, with a view of understanding their living conditions, considering their socio-economic and cultural background.

Conducts monitoring and evaluation studies on the various rehabilitation programmes, in order to find out if the benefits are received by the rehabilitated and they are put to the intended use.

Rehabilitation studies also aid the respective projects in assessing the subsistence allowance; rehabilitation grant etc to be granted to the project affected families. Its studies also enable tracing out the needs of the rehabilitated, such as need for acquisition of productive assets, insurance cover, civic amenities, training needs etc.

Assists various authorities in developing proper and necessary legislation's on the beneficiaries who come under the purview of Resettlement and Rehabilitation in order to simplify the existing procedures to facilitate speedy execution, avoid cost-escalation and time over-runs and provide social security and other welfare measures to them.

Equipped with necessary infrastructure to provide research inputs on developing new and innovative strategies for Resettlement and Resettlement Programs and increasing the coverage of the programs.

Presents research inputs necessary inputs to the National Disaster Management Programmes, in identifying the various institutional arrangements capable of assisting the process of Resettlement and Rehabilitation. Its research studies are capable of providing necessary inputs to the various institutes and universities in bringing out literature and organising training programs in tackling the disasters, capacity building and interaction with regional and international agencies in the field of disaster management.
