Health and Nutrition

Address the underlying causes of poor health, growth faltering in children, necessary steps for the improvement of nutrition and health status of women and children, effectiveness of the community center (Anganwadi) approach, immunization programmes for children and pregnant women and infant, under 5 mortality and maternal mortality.

Conducts studies on the growth and development of children and adolescent girls, learning disabilities of the undernourished school children, gender-based violence, sexual behavior and reproductive health. The same helps the Integrated Nutrition & Health Project (INHP), National Family Welfare Programme, Building on Health and Nutrition (BHNP II) Project combat undernutrition, organise massive health campaigns and creating awareness against pre-birth elimination of females.

Research inputs and consultancy services to National Health Programmes such as Enhanced Malaria Control Project, National TB Control Programme, National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP). Also in areas of control of Blindness programme, National Goitre Control Programme, Public Health care, Vitamin A and micronutrient supplementation, Universal Immunization Program, Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) Programme etc which prevent the outbreak of communicable and non-communicable diseases, by strengthening the surveillance, massive immunization and fortification of foods.

Conducts monitoring and evaluation of the National AIDS Control Programme, Blood Safety Programme, Condom Programme etc, by studying the target groups, high-risk behaviors, blood safety, gender sensitization, public awareness, mother to child transmission, detection and treatment. Also offers counseling, rehabilitation with a view to facilitate effective coordination between government, NGOs and the Society and in training all health care workers to create a congenial environment where AIDS patients are admitted and treated.

Research studies on the disabled, disability prevention, early detection, medical intervention and surgical correction, artificial and low-cost aids. Also on legislative framework for their protection, evaluation of the Rehabilitation schemes available for them emphasizing on promoting services for the disabled through District Rehabilitation Center (DRC) Project, Regional Rehabilitation Training, which concentrate on encouraging them to become functionally independent.

Health Infrastructure based studies provide valuable inputs in assessing the training needs for all categories of health and family welfare personnel and revising curricula to provide integrated teaching. It extends its technical support for the development of Health Research Information System, networking the key Medical libraries and developing training modules for the pilot project participants.
