 Environment and Forests Development
The National Environmental Policy focuses on Conservation of Critical Environmental Resources through protection and conservation of critical ecological systems and resources, promotion of sustainable development of natural resources through equitable access and judicious use of environmental resources by all sections of society. It aims to achieve efficiency in environmental resource use and apply principles of good governance.
Assists both central and state governments in various programmes like Community Forest Management, Social Forestry, Group Farm forestry, National Afferentation, Eco-Development Programme, National River Conservation Plan (NRCP), National Lake Conservation Plan (NLCP), etc.
Engaged right from formulation of strategies and policymaking through various types of studies such as Benchmark Surveys, Monitoring and Evaluation, Environmental Impact Assessment Studies.
Extends its support to programs and policies that promote community participation and management in Environment and Forest development, conservation of natural resources like air, water, forests, wildlife etc.
Creating inter-generational equity, integrating environmental concerns in social development, environmental governance and enhancement of resources for environmental conservation through regeneration programs, regulatory framework, research on ecofriendly technologies, collection of environmental information and protecting the threatened natural systems.
Provides research inputs to continuous revision, improvement and updating of National and State Policies, pre and post project evaluation, setting and reviewing environmental standards, developing Eco-tourism and encouraging community participation in the sector.
